Sinn Féin Cityside Councillor Patricia Logue has described the £310,000 revamp of the Lecky Road Flyover in Derry as “good news.”
The revamp will include an upgrade of barriers, footpaths and lighting.
Cllr Logue said: “The area in and around the Lecky Road Flyover has been in a very bad state for some time now. We have been campaigning for many years for such a revamp to take place.
“Sadly, the Flyover has become a magnet for much of the anti community activity that blights the area and sends out an unwarranted negative image of the local community .
“It’s evident the continued expansion of the city has put a severe strain on all the main arterial routes at peak times of the day. While the Flyover may have fulfilled its purpose over the years its has long since past its sell by date.”
Cllr Logue concluded: “A radical rethink of its future and the safety impact it’s having on the local community caused by increasing traffic volume entering a densely populated area is needed.”
