Roddy Collins has left Athlone Town and said he would like to manager Derry City.
Collins has parted company with Athlone Town after leading the Midlands club to the First Division Championship and promotion to the Airtricity Premiership.
Collins, who has led Bohemians to a league and cup double, said he would love the opportunity to take over the managerial reins at the Brandywell club and said he believed to could deliver a league title to Derry within two seasons.
Derry last won the Premiership title back in 1996 when Felix Healy was the manager at the Brandywell. The club’s previous title was secured in 1989 when the Candy Stripes, bossed by Jim McLaughlin, made a clean sweep – winning the league, FAI Cup and League Cup.
Derry have been looking for a new manager after parting company with Declan Devine at the end of last season.
Devine was in charge of the Candy Stripes for two seasons. Despite winning the FAI Cup, reaching Setanta Cup final and getting the club into Europe on two occasions, he still lost his job.
Chairman Philip O’Doherty said Derry would not be rushed into appointing a successor to Devine.
Mick Cook, who left Drogheda United after the Honky Dory Park’s side’s defeat to Sligo Rovers in last Sunday’s dramatic FAI Cup final, has also publicly stated he would like to manage the club.
Former City skipper and Brandywell favourite, Peter Hutton, who left Finn Harps at the end of the last season, is also believed to be among those interested in the job.
