Derry remains the North’s unemployment blackspot with 8.6 per cent of the adult population claiming unemployment benefit.
The breakdown of the figures for last month (October) show 6,098 were unemployed – 4,172 male and 1,926 female, 8.6 per cent of the population.
That is 179 less than September and 23 down for the same period last year.
The latest labour market figures, published today by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA), show the seasonally adjusted number of people claiming unemployment related benefits in the North stood at 61,000 last month – down 600 from the previous month.
This is the ninth consecutive month in which there has been a fall in this measure of unemployment (3,900 over the period).
The Northern Ireland claimant count rate (6.7%) in October was the highest among the 12UK regions – the UK rate was 3.9%.
This is now the 43rd consecutive month the North has had the highest or second highest UK regional unemployment rate, on this measure.
The latest monthly decrease in Northern Ireland claimants (1.0%) was lower than the UK decrease (3.1%).
Over the year, the Northern Ireland claimant count decreased by 4.7% (3,000), compared to a decrease of 16.9% in the UK.
The annual decrease in Northern Ireland was the lowest among the 12 UK regions.
