Those “tampering” with lifebelts along the waterfront of the River Foyle in Derry have been slammed by a former mayor of the city.
Cllr Kevin Campbell was hitting out after lifebelts on the pathway beside Waterside House had been interfered with.
The Sinn Fein represented said he was made aware of the “tampering” by a member of the public.
Cllr Campbell added: “They were angry and disgusted that someone had been tampering with the lifebelts on the pathway beside Waterside House.
“ It’s a very sad state of affairs that anyone would even contemplate doing this sort of thing. I saw throughout my year as Mayor the work and dedication of the volunteers of Foyle Search and Rescue and the importance of having lifebelts along the riverfront and the Peace Bridge.”
CL anyone with information on the culprits to contact the PSNI straight away.
