The Disney films “Saving Mr Banks” and “Frozen” are to get their Northern Ireland premieres when they screen at the Foyle Film Festival.
“Saving Mr Banks,” the extraordinary untold story of how one of the most beloved tales of all time, “Mary Poppins,” was brought to the big screen, is one of two Disney family movies added to the festival line-up – the other being “Frozen,”a comedy adventure from the creators of “Wreck it Ralph” and “Tangled.” It will have an exclusive screening at the festival before it officially arrives in the cinema on December 6.
“Saving Mr Banks” focuses on the real-life battle between P.L. Travers, played by Emma Thompson and Walt Disney, played by Tom Hanks, over the movie rights to her famous literary character – “Mary Poppins.”
Film critics are already predicting Oscar nominations for both actors, who are both previous two-time Academy Award winners. They lead a stellar international supporting cast including Colin Farrell, Paul Giamatti and Ruth Wilson.
“Frozen” has already been nominated for a 2014 Academy Award.
Based loosely on Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Snow Queen,” the musical animation follows Anna (voice of Kristen Bell), a fearless optimist, who teams up with extreme mountain man Kristoff (voice of Jonathan Groff) and his sidekick reindeer Sven in an epic journey.
They encounter mystical trolls, an amazing and comedic snowman named Olaf, Everest-like conditions and magic at every turn in a race to find Anna’s sister Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel), the Snow Queen, and save their kingdom from eternal winter.
Bernie McLaughlin, Foyle Film Festival director said: ‘We couldn’t have asked for a more magical way to end this year’s Foyle Film Festival. Disney films have been delighting audiences for years and will continue to do so for many more. It is our pleasure and honour to premiere two of Disney’s biggest releases this year – what a treat for our young audience, and of course the young at heart!’
“Saving Mr Banks” and “Frozen” are the latest films to be added to a strong line-up of screenings, workshops and events at the Foyle Film Festival.
