An arson attack the Carmelite Retreat Centre in Derry, in which a tractor was extensively damaged, has been condemned by the Sinn Fein councillor for the area.
Sometime between 7.00pm and 7.50pm on Tuesday last, extensive damage was caused to a tractor after it was set on fire in the grounds of the Centre at Brae Head Road.
Cllr Kevin Campbell urged anyone who saw anything in regards to the incident or someone “messing about” with machinery “parked up for the night” to contact the police.
He said: “Sadly we these incidents happening from time to time with machinery getting burned causing thousands of pounds worth of damage. And interrupting the work that the machinery is being used for.”
Police have appealed for anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area or who has any information about the incident to contact them at Strand Road on 0845 600 8000.
