Derry’s Guildhall will be buzzing this weekend as craft makers and seasonal bargain hunters take over the building for the annual Christmas Craft Fair, which throws open its doors for business this afternoon.
Organised by Derry City Council, the Craft Fair is one of the most popular events in the calendar, attracting hundreds of craft enthusiasts and Christmas shoppers every year.
Over 40 craft producers will be showing their wares over the weekend, with everything from ornate glassware to knitted gnomes on offer.
Speaking ahead of the opening, Mayor Cllr Martin Reilly said it was “fantastic” to see the event return to the Guildhall.
He added: “Obviously, with the extensive renovations to the building the Craft Fair had to move last year, but for 2013 we return to its traditional setting – which provides a beautiful backdrop for the whole event.
“The fair is a real showcase for the many skilled makers based here in the city, and as always we have a diverse range of unique gifts and creative craft works on display to suit all tastes and budgets.
“I would encourage everyone to come along and show their support for the local craft industry and of course bag a few bargains along the way.”
Among the goods on display and making the perfect gifts for loved ones this Christmas will be finely crafted ceramics, decorative hand thrown pottery, bespoke furniture, candles and crocheted garments, jewellery and natural cosmetics. Not to mention stocking fillers for the kids, with hand-made fudge, knitted toys, clothes, picture books and novelty signs.
The Craft Fair runs in the Guildhall from today to Sunday, admission is £1 (children green).
Opening times – today: 2.00pm – 8.00pm: Saturday, November 16th: 10am – 6pm, Sunday, November 17th: 11am – 5pm.
