A number of athletes from Derry will be in the Northern Ireland team taking part in the British and Irish Masters Cross Country International being held in Cardiff, Wales, today.
Among those competing is Foyle Valley’s Keith Shiels whose performances this year have earned up a well earned international call-up in the men’s veteran 35 category.
The highlight of the Creggan’s performances was his victory in the Waterside Half Marathon. He also recorded victories in Felix 10k, Whitehead 5, Buncrana 5k and Fairhill 5.
The Foyle Valley Athletic Club runner also cruised to victory at the NIMAA Cross Country last month.
However, Shiels knows he faces a tough test in Cardiff today but is relishing the challenge.
He said: “The field will include top class opposition. I am feeling good and really looking forward to mixed up in it. I have no doubt it will be a good race.”
