Although there are prestigious county honours up for grabs, the majority of front runners will have one eye on selection for the upcoming European Cross Country Championships in Serbia, with AAI selectors set to attend.

The top three athletes in the senior and junior races will gain automatic selection for the aforementioned European Championships while the top three under-23 male and female runners (in the senior race) will be given “favourable consideration” with regard to selection for the under-23 team.

Among those hoping for a high finish will be Connor Bradley (City of Derry AC), Scott Rankin (Foyle Valley AC), Declan Reed (City of Derry AC) and Allan Bogle (City of Derry AC).

In the junior men’s and under-18 races, Shane McGowan (City of Derry AC) is also expected to challenge for a top spot.
