Baroness O’Loan has visited St Joseph’s Boys School in Derry.
The former Police Ombudsman met with Year 13 and 14 Politics students from the Creggan School to give them an insight into the work carried out in the British House of Lords.
The visit was arranged through the Lord Speaker’s “Peers in Schools” programme, which has been running across the UK since 2007 and has so far involved around 50,000 young people.
Baroness O’Loan served as Northern Ireland’s first Police Ombudsman between 1999 and 2007.
In July 2009, it was announced that she was to be appointed to the House of Lords and, consequently, was raised to the peerage in September the same year.
In December 2010, National University of Ireland, Maynooth appointed her as Chairman of its Governing Authority.
