There were mixed fortunes for Derry sides in this afternoon’s AIB Ulster Football Championship semi-finals.
There was joy for Ballinderry Shamrocks as they clinched a place in the senior final. However, there was disappointment for Foreglen O’Briens who failed in their bid to make the intermediate final.
Ballinderry clinched their spot in the final with a win over Kilcoo at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh.
The Derry champions led their Down counterparts 1-8 to 0-5 at half time and held off a determined Kilcoo in the second period to win by four points on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-9.
Ballinderry last won the Ulster club title in 2001 but were losing finalists in the 2006 and 2008 deciders.
Ballinderry boss Martin McKinless was delighted with the win and now must prepare his side for the final in which they will take on Donegal champions Glenswilly who defeated Roslea from Fermanagh on the other semi-final tie on a scoreline of 3-9 to 2-8 at Healy Park in Omagh.
Goals from Colin Kelly and Michael Murphy had given the Donegal side a comfortable 2-5 to 0-6 lead at half time.
However, Foreglen’s hopes of reaching the intermediate final were dashed at Healy Park in Omagh where they were defeated by Monaghan champions Truagh on a scoreline of 0-7 to 2-11.
