The Derry “LondonDerry” Doire is slowly gaining ground on the rest of the fleet in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
The Derry entry fell off the pace last week when it had to divert to Port Elizabeth following an injury to a crew member after the boat was thrown sideways after being hit by a large wave.
The yacht has survived another storm during which wind speeds topped 130 knots.
Skipper, Sean McCarter, said they were doing “decent speeds on course.”
He added: “We are slowly but surely closing on the pack in front but it feels a bit like ‘two steps forward, one step back’. If we can manage to get close enough that our weather is not drastically different, anything could happen.”
UTC, Qingdao continues to lead with 1,780 miles to go tot he finish line.). The Henri Lloyd is in second place 115 miles behind with OneDLL in third.
