A number of services will be affected at Altnagevlin Hospital this afternoon following this morning’s alert in the hospital’s South Wing.
Fire crews rushed to the hospital after a automated alarm was triggered by an “overheated electrical component” in the basement area of the hospital’s South Wing.
As a result, a small number of services will be affected this afternoon.
A spokesperson for the Western Health Trust said any day patients affected would be contacted directly by hospital staff. Alternatively, patients could contact the hospital by calling the number on their appointment letter.
An incident occurred in the basement area of South Wing building (facing Drumahoe) first thing this morning, which activated an alarm.
The incident affected only the basement plant area of the hospital.
However, the Trust activated its “Major Incident Plan” and restricted access to parts of the South Wing of Altnagelvin Hospital from early morning.
The spokesperson said on advice received from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) received at 11:30am, the restricted access decision had been “stood down” and services were returning to normal at the hospital.
