The green light has been given for the refurbishment of the lights on Derry’s Craigavon Bridge.
Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland today announced DSD funding of £53,000 for refurbishment work which will see the provision of 54 ornate lanterns on the upper deck of the bridge and provision of new LED lighting over the pedestrian walkway on the lower deck.
The project, which has been designed and will be delivered by DRD Roads Service, is planned to be completed by Christmas
Announcing the project, Minister McCausland said the investment of £53,000 by the Executive would benefit all users of the bridge.
The said the new LED lights above the walkway on the lower deck would “significantly” improve the lighting, making it safer for pedestrian and cyclists alike.
Mr McCausland conclluded: “This new lighting, coupled with the refurbishment works to the ornate lanterns on the upper deck, will greatly improve the appearance of the Craigavon Bridge and will compliment the Walled City Lighting project in Londonderry.”
