Police have organised a number of meetings in the Derry area to enable farmers to register with the CESAR scheme set up to combat the theft of agricultural equipment and machinery.
Organised in association with Policing and Community Safety Partnerships, the meetings are part of the “Safe and Secure Together” campaign which aims to reduce rural crime.
CESAR has the added benefits of having no annual fees and reducing insurance costs. and is approved and recommended by the Police Service of Northern Ireland and the Association of Chief Police Officers.
PSNI Crime Prevention Officer Mandy Monteith through the scheme farm machinery would be protected by state of the art technology, thus giving farmers “peace of mind.”
She added: “It is a visual deterrent to thieves and aids identification making it easier to return to its owner if stolen and recovered.
“This is an excellent opportunity for farmers living in the local area to get their tractors or quads marked with a unique data tag. We would encourage as many people as possible to sign up for the scheme.”
Meetings are taking place on:
Monday 25 November: at Erwin Agricare, 51 BallyKelly Road, Limavady.
Tuesday 26 November: at Crawford’s Weighbridge & Meal Store, Carricknakielt Road, Maghera.
Tuesday 3 December: at R Robinson Sand & Gravel, 75a Cumber Road, Claudy.
Anyone wanting to sign up to the scheme must register first with Pirtek. Contact Cathy on 028 9036 2591.
