There has been an angry reaction to a controversial proposal by Northern Ireland’s attorney general that there should be no prosecutions in Troubles related killings which occurred before the 1998 Good Friday Agreement.
John Larkin also said there should be no further inquests or State investigations into the crimes committed before the signing of the peace agreement.
Mr Larkin, the chief legal adviser to the Stormont Executive, rejected claims his proposals amounted to an amnesty.
The proposals have been heavily criticised by political parties and families of those killed prior to 1998.
Kate Nash, whose brother William was killed on Bloody Sunday, said she was “incensed” by Mr Lecky’s proposals.
She said: “My brother was murdered nearly 42 years ago and the evidence is there, as there is in many, many cases. This is just another ‘get out of jail free card’.”
