A security alert at Strabane Old Road in the Waterside of Derry- the fourth in less than 12 hours – has ended with police confirming it was yet another “elaborate hoax.”
British army bomb experts, who attended the scene, have removed an object for further forensic examination.
Residents who had been moved out of their homes have been allowed to return.
Local people had claimed the suspect device was lifted from a garden of a house by a member of the public and taken to a “safer place.”
Meanwhile, another security alert in the Waterside – the fifth since midnight – remains ongoing.
Police say they are responding to a report of a suspicious object found in the Hollymount Park area.
The Trench Road close to Hollymount Park has been closed and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
Three separate overnight alerts, which saw a number of homes evacuated in the Gobnascale area, were also declared elaborate hoaxes.
There were a number of hoax security alerts in the same area two weeks ago.
