Derry City Council is the only local authority from the North taking part in a new initiative aimed at protecting the rights of children.
UNICEF’s Child Rights Partners programme is a pilot scheme aimed at putting children’s rights at the heart of public services.
Deputy Mayor Alderman Gary Middleton attended the launch of the initiative in the House of Commons in London.
He said: “This initiative encourages local authorities like Derry City Council to work proactively to make rights real for the most vulnerable children and young people in our city and region.
“We are the only Council in Northern Ireland taking part in the scheme and will be working alongside local authorities in Glasgow, Tower Hamlets, Neath and Port Talbot, Leeds and Newcastle to help transform services for children and help each child reach their full potential.”
