Ollie Horgan has been appointed as the manager of Finn Harps FC in a shock announcement made by the club’s board of directors earlier this morning.
Horgan’s name was rarely mentioned in the speculation linking several candidates to the position with both Don O’Riordan and Joe Boyle being touted as the favourites for the job.
Horgan succeeds Peter Hutton who left the Ballybofey club at the end of last season to become Roddy Collins assistant at Derry City.
Sean ‘Wizzy’ McGowan and Sean Connor were also linked to the vacant position and were seen as the dark horses to get the job.
However, it was the former Fanad United manager who was sensationally appointed as the new manager.
It is believed the St.Eunan’s schoolteacher gave a fantastic presentation and wowed the board about his plans for the forthcoming 2014 season.
Horgan has been a hugely successful manager in the Ulster Senior League leading Fanad United to several Ulster Senior League titles over the years.
It is not yet known who will be Horgan’s assistant but rumours are circulating that his new No.2 could be former Sligo Rovers keeper Ciaran Kelly.
