The Derry “LondonDerry” Derry has crossed the finish line in ninth place in the fourth race in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
Skipper Sean McCarter said he was delighted with the finish given they had to divert to Port Elizabeth of hand over an injured crew member two weeks ago.
After 5,000 miles of racing, less than four minutes separated four yachts at the finish line off Albany Waterfront Marina in Western Australia in a spectacular finish witnessed by cheering crowds.
Old Pulteney finished in eight position at with the Derry~Londonderry~Doire coming in ninth position less than two minutes behind.
Mission Performance came in in tenth, just pipping Invest Africa.
The fifth race of 16 – Second Great Cape and Three Oceans – will leave Albany on Tuesday next at the start of the 2,150 sail to Rushcutters Bay in Cyc, Hobart, Australia where the first boats are expected on St Stephen’s Day, 26 December.
