The decision by Environment Minister to give the green light to a new £1 million sports facility at Bay Road in Derry has been welcomed by Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney., bay
Fortuna Enterprises, the group behind the Brunswick complex at Pennyburn in the city, plans to construct nine floodlit synthetic grass pitches and a clubhouse adjacent to the Bay Road Nature Reserve.
The development will also included associated car parking, floodlighting and fencing.
It is expected the development will create up to 20 jobs.
Mr McCartney said as well as creating much needed employment, the new complex would further enhance the sporting facilities available to people across the city.
He added: “This announcement comes just a month after confirmation by DCAL Minister Carál Ní Chuilín of an allocation of £2 million funding for development of the Daisyfield and Brandywell Showground’s, unlocking the Foyle Valley/Brandywell Masterplan in conjunction with Council funding of £2.8 million.
“I look forward to seeing these projects being delivered on for the people of Derry.”
Mr McCartney concluded: “It’s also important that local residents in areas where the new developments are taking place are kept fully up to date with the plans.”
