Derry rector Pat Storey will make history this afternoon when she becomes the first ever female bishop in any of the main Churches in Britain and Ireland.
The consecration of the Rev Storey as Bishop Of Meath And Kildare will take place at Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin at 2.00pm.
Ordained a deacon in 1997 and a priest the following year and became Rector at St Augustine’s Church in Derry in 2004.
The 53-year-old is married to a Church of Ireland clergyman, the Rev Earl Storey.
A mother of two, Rev Storey studied French and English at Trinity College Dublin, before training at the Church of Ireland Theological College.
She also worked for a time as a youth worker in Kill O’ The Grange parish in Dublin.
Speaking ahead of her consecration, she said she saddened to leave her Derry ministry.
She said: “I have had an extraordinarily happy experience in St Augustine’s and in this wonderful city, which I will be sad to leave.”
“However, I count it an enormous privilege to begin a new phase of my ministry with the people of Meath and Kildare, and I look forward to working with the team of clergy who are already there.
