The majority of jobs under threat at the civil service pensions office at Waterside House in Derry are safe, it has emerged.
Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Raymond McCartney said staff were informed of the news by management this morning that up to 70 jobs were to be retained although around 12 staff were to be “redeployed.”
Mr McCartney said the announcement to staff was “welcome news.”
He added: “This will ease the minds of the workers there, particularly in the run up to Christmas. I want to congratulate everyone involved in the campaign to ensure these jobs were retained in Derry.”
There had been concern the Derry jobs would be lost as a result of a review of the civil service pensions operation and the introduction of a new computer system.
