The University of Ulster has been called on to set up a proposed veterinary medicine facility at its Derry campus.
Sinn Fein MEP Martina Anderson, the GUE/NGL Group Food and Veterinary contact person on the ENVI Committee at the European Parliament, has written to UU Chancellor Richard Barnett requesting the proposed facility be placed Magee College.
Ms Anderson said: “In line with the University commitment to Derry, I have written to Chancellor Richard Barnett requesting that the proposed Veterinary Medicine Course and new facility is located in Derry as an integral part of UU Magee.
“I believe that Magee is perfectly located for such a facility which would be complimented by the existing medical facilities – i.e. Centre for Stratified Medicine, Intelligent Science Research Centre (ISRC), Biomedical Science Research Institute, Bamform Mental Health, CAWT and C-TRIC along with the proposed Science Park point to the rationale for this facility to be located in Derry.”
