The North’s five main political parties have been asked to come with ideas for a potential new flag for Northern Ireland.
The request has come from Dr Richard Haass, the former American envoy chairing talks on flags, parades and dealing with the past.
Dr Haass, who has set an end of year deadline for resolving the issues, has written to parties’ negotiators asking for their thoughts on the design of a possible new flag
A new flag is one of the issues raised in Dr Haass’s letter.
He is also trying to ascertain the parties’ thoughts on how the Historical Enquiries Team (HET), historic investigations by the Police Ombudsman, inquests and inquiries could be reformed, combined or improved.
He has also asked what criteria a parading body should consider in making its rulings.
The parties have until the close of business tomorrow to respond to Dr Haass’s letter.
