Members of the public are being urged to attend a number of public information sessions taking place in the city tomorrow on the issue of dog fouling.
The meetings, organised by Sinn Fein Councillor Patricia Logue and community organisation Triax, will be held in the Bishop Street, Brandywell, Bogside areas on the issue of dog fouling, which is blighting many communities. The events have been organised by Councillor Patricia Logue and the community organisation Triax.
Councillor Logue said Sinn Féin activists who carry out community surveys across the city on an ongoing basis had found the issue of dog fouling was a growing concern for many residents.
She added: “My party colleague Councillor Colly Kelly and I have also received a high number of complaints about this problem right across the constituency stretching from Bishop Street right up to the Marlborough and Oakfield areas.
“The mess caused by dog fouling is dirty, smelly and unpleasant, and creates a significant health hazard, especially to children, and brings irresponsible dog owners into conflict with other users of public places.”
Tomorrow’s information sessions, which will be attended by officials from Derry City Council and Housing Associations, will take place in the Gasyard Centre from 10.00am-11.00am, Long Tower Centre from 11.30am-12.30pm and Bishop Street Community Centre.
Cllr Logue urged anyone who had concerns about dog fouling to go along any of the meetings and raise their concerns with the officials.
