A Derry City Council ceremony planned for tonight at which Foyle Hospice founder Dr McGinley was to have received the Freedom of the City has been postponed.
Dr McGinley was to receive the award at a special meeting of Derry City Council in the Guildhall at 7.00pm.
The ceremony was to be followed by a civic reception and celebratory dinner hosted by the Mayor.
A spokesperson for Derry City Council said the civic ceremonial event was postponed “due to circumstances beyond our control.”
The spokesperson added: “It is hoped the event will be rescheduled in the New Year.”
