Derry Sinn Fein Councillor Mickey Cooper has said he was confident of new digital projects being developed in the city.
The ERNACT (European Regions Network for the Application of Communications Technology) board member has hailed the success of a visit by ERNACT’s European partners to the city.
He said he was confident that the discussions that took place would lead to new digital projects being developed.
Cllr Cooper said: “ERNACT is a joint Derry City and Donegal County Council initiative which aims to draw down European money for digital projects in partnership with other European regions. This resulted in delegates from areas such as Romania, the Basque country and Sweden coming to the city to discuss how the ERNACT network could be strengthened, attract new partners and most importantly the possibility of developing new projects between the partner regions.
“As a result of these discussions I am hopeful of see progress in new digital initiatives in tourism, rural broadband and marine technology, all of which can be assisted through the new European funding streams which will be open for bids from 2014 onwards.
“This was something that the group were able to discuss with MEP Martina Anderson whilst they were in Derry.”
Cllr Cooper concluded: “I was also delighted to host the delegates on visits to the Nerve Centre and Gasyard Centre to see how both city centre and community venues have developed their training offer and facilities to ensure opportunities in the creative digital sector are fully exploited”
