Martin McGuinness is to attend the memorial service being held in Johannesburg, South Africa, tomorrow in tribute to Nelson Mandela.
Mr McGuinness will be attending in his capacity as Northern Ireland’s Deputy First Minister.
At least 50 world leaders as well as stars such as Bono, Oprah Winfrey and the Spice Girls will also attend four-hour memorial service.
It will be one of the biggest gatherings of heads of state, religious leaders and celebrities the world has ever seen and will take place in a 95,000-seater football stadium in the township of Soweto.
American President Obama is likely to deliver an address at the event, while some of the globally-renowned pop stars attending may also perform, although the programme remains a closely-guarded secret.
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD will travel to South Africa later this week to attend events marking the passing of Nelson Mandela.
Mr. Adams was invited to attend tomorrow’s service in Johannesburg tomorrow but is unable to travel until Wednesday due to prior engagements in Ireland.
The Sinn Féin President will depart on Wednesday and has been invited by the ANC to attend a special memorial service on Saturday.
The event will take place at the Air Force Base Waterkloof in Pretoria, where the ruling party will bid Madiba farewell.
