A Derry nursery school has won a top award at this year’s Action Cancer Health Action Awards.
Carnhill Nursery School was one of 12 schools within the Western Education and Library Board area awarded a gold medal.
The Action Cancer Health Action Awards are part of Action Cancer’s ongoing Health Action project, which features a range of health promotion sessions for nursery, primary and secondary schools, as well as further education colleges, and is sponsored by Centra.
The main aim of the awards is to allow schools to demonstrate the work they are doing within their schools as well as a means for schools to showcase their commitment to pupil health and to show how they have promoted healthy living throughout their school.
Health Action is the only programme of its kind in Northern Ireland and aims to educate young people on the importance of a healthy diet, care in the sun and the need to take exercise to help reduce the risk of cancer and save lives.
Barrack Street Boys Primary School in Strabane and St Mary’s Primary School, Altinure in Claudy in also won gold.
Gaelscoil Éadain Mhóir in Derry and St. Columba’s Primary School, Clady were awarded silver medals.
