The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service has again advised members of the public of the importance of having working smoke alarms installed in properties.
The advice follows a fire in the Culmore area of Derry last night.
Fightfighters were called to deal with a blaze in a domestic garage adjacent to a home in Drummond Park shortly after 8.30pm.
Residents of the house were alerted to the fire when smoke alarms activated.
After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters used a “positive pressure fan” to clear smoke from the house.
A spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue Service said the incident once again highlighted the importance of having a working smoke alarm installed.
