Derry City Council is to meet on Tuesday next when it is expected to give the go-ahead for major redevelopment work at Brandywell Stadium.
Members of the Council’s Development Committee have agreed in principle to the revamp which is subject to ratification by Full Council.
A council spokesperson said: “Members of the Development Committee agreed in principle to progress with the redevelopment plans for the Brandywell Stadium. Members agreed, subject to ratification by Full Council, to advance with plans to move the Greyhound Track to the new proposed location around the Showground’s pitch and replace the existing grass playing pitch with a synthetic 3G or 4G surface to allow year round use for games and training.
“As part of the proposal, the Council intends to provide four changing rooms to facilitate both community and DCFC users of the new pitch.
The spokesperson concluded: “Under the proposal Council intends to undertake the most pressing health and safety requirements, including the demolition of the western and northern boundary walls in the short term.”
