Migrant workers and ethnic minority groups who participated in English language and Local Awareness classes in Derry have been acknowledged by the city’s Mayor at a prizegiving ceremony in the Tower Hotel.
The classes were delivered by the North West Academy of English thanks to funding from Derry City Council’s Community Relations Programme and were aimed at longer term local residents who don’t speak English as a first language.
Extending his congratulations to those who successfully completed the programme, the Mayor said he was delighted to see so many different nationalities benefit from the training programme.
Sue Divin, community relations oOfficer with Derry City Council, said the courses had been a “tremendous success” with 94 participants from 21 nationalities completing the courses and being awarded their certificates.
