Five people were taken to hospital following yesterday afternoon’s pile-up on the main Derry to Strabane road.
A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said four cars were involved in the collision which occurred at the Mason Road junction in Magheramason shortly after 3.30pm.
Firefighters used hydraulic cutting gear to release two casualties from two separate cars.
A total of 11 people were involved with five being taken to hospital.
Their condition is not known but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Following the collision, traffic was diverted along side roads causing lengthy tailbacks in both directions on the main Derry to Strabane Road.
The road was reopened to traffic at around midnight after police accident investigators carried out a detailed examination of the scene.
