Danny Ventre has become new Derry City boss Roddy Collins’ third signing.
The 27-year-old Liverpudian joins the Brandywell club after spending six years at Sligo Rovers with whom he won every major domestic honour, culminating in him captaining Paul Cook’s side to the League of Ireland Premiership title in 2012.
The experienced midfielder made over 200 appearances for Sligo during which time he also filled in at full-back and centre-half.
However, he struggled to maintain a regular place in the Sligo team through injury last season and became available following the expiration of his contract in October.
Collins had attempted to lure Ventre to Athlone as he took the Midlanders to the First Division title last season but the player opted to stay and fight for his place at the Premiership club.
Ventre began his playing career at Chester City before joining Accrington Stanley with whom he won the Conference title in 2005/6 season.
Seeking first team football he left Accrington and joined Sligo in July 2006.
