Funding totalling £400,000 has been made available for public realm works on Dorman’s Wharf and the area around the Waterside Railway Station in Derry, Regional Development Minister Nelson McCausland has announced.
The project will cover an area on the east bank of the River Foyle stretching between the Craigavon Bridge and the railway station.
The works will include enhancements to paving and street lighting, street furniture and landscaping.
Minister McCausland said the Waterside area would “benefit greatly” from “these enhancements” to the public realm in the Foyle riverside.
He added: “This funding complements earlier investments of just under £1million made by my Department on the nearby public realm projects at Spencer Road, Fountain Hill and Duke Street.”
Mr McCausland said the project represented a continued investment by the Northern Ireland Executive in the public realm adjacent to the riverside in the city, with over £900,000 previously spent on schemes on the west bank of the River Foyle.
The Minister added: “The upgrade will continue the investment which my Department has been making to upgrade the Riverside Walkway in its entirety and to focus on the River Foyle as an amenity to be enjoyed by all who live in and visit the city.”
