Funding totalling £94,200 has been confirmed for Leafair Community Association in the Galliagh area of Derry. 
The funding from the Northern Ireland Executive, through the Department for Social Development’s Neighbourhood Renewal programme, will allow for the recruitment of a project co-ordinator and a project support worker who will engage with isolated groups and communities within the Galliagh area until March 2015.
Announcing the funding Minister McCausland said the investment illustrated his continued commitment to the future of the Outer North Neighbourhood Renewal area.
He added: “This new funding will allow Leafair Community Association to work with and support local community and voluntary organisations in addressing ongoing issues within the Galliagh area.
“The support worker will be there to encourage and support residents of all ages and local Community and Voluntary groups operating in the area to come together in partnership with statutory agencies and better connect to opportunities that exist, with the aim of tackling the social and physical decline in the Galliagh estate.”
Liam Griffin, chairperson, Leafair Community Association said: “Leafair Community Association is delighted with this recognition from DSD of our role in this community through its funding for these two posts which will allow us to work in tandem with other local community and voluntary organisations in the Galliagh area in order to address very serious issues in our community.”
