Almost 20 schools from Derry are eligible for a project set up to create 230 new teaching jobs.
The Delivering Social Change Signature Project, announced by the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister, aims to employ an additional 230 recently graduated teachers, who are not currently in a permanent teaching post, on a two-year fixed term contract to enable schools to deliver tuition and support for children in primary and post primary schools who are currently struggling to achieve basic educational standards.
Eligible schools will receive additional support and the outcomes will be reported, monitored and evaluated throughout the project’s two year duration.
The Department of Education is responsible for the implementation of the Literacy and Numeracy Signature Project and has commissioned the Western Education and LIbrary Board as the lead board to work in partnership with the other employing authorities to deliver the project over the next two academic years.
Eligible primary schools in Derry are Ebrington, Newbuildingsl, Fountain, Rosemount, Nazareth House, Holy Child, Oliver Plunkett (Strathfoyle), St Paul’s (Slievemore), Chapel Road and Gaelscoil Eadain Mhoir.
Post primary schools are Lisneal College, St Mary’s College, St Patrick’s and St Brigid’s (Claudy), St Joseph’s Boys, St Cecilia’s College, St Brigid’s College, Immaculate Conception College and Oakgrove Integrated College.
