The Derry “LondonDerry” Doire is taking part in The Rolex Sydney Hobart Race which doubles as Race 6 of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
Speaking before setting off, Sean McCarter, skipper of the Derry Clipper, said everyone was “pretty exciting” about taking part in the “must do” race.
He said: “We’re organised. There was a lot of prep work required but we’ve done an incredible amount since arriving here. We’re used to only having twelve boats on the start line so 94 is going to feel very different indeed.
“It’s going to be a pretty special day and of course it is one of the must do races in the world.
“All the Clipper Race crews are coming with 18,000 miles warm up. We know our boats are sturdy.”
He concluded: “We’ve come through big storms already so we are prepared for what is coming.”
