Funding totalling £400,000 for public realm works on Dorman’s Wharf and the area around the Waterside Railway Station in Derry has been welcomed by Sinn Fein councillor for the area, Bridget Meehan.
The project will cover an area on the east bank of the River Foyle stretching between the Craigavon Bridge and the railway station.
The works will include enhancements to paving and street lighting, street furniture and landscaping.
Announcing the funding before Christmas, Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland said the Waterside area would “benefit greatly” from “these enhancements” to the public realm in the Foyle riverside.
Welcoming the announcement, Councillor Meehan said: “It is welcome news that this investment is taking place in the Waterside. We have seen how investing along the riverfront can bring an entire area to life as it has been with the Queens Quay area.
“Thousands of people of all ages throng the quayside walkway from Bay Road right up to the Peace Bridge. For years the people of Derry have been crying out to see our riverfront being fully utilised.”
