In all, five betting offices run by company were targeted by armed and masked raiders in a 13 day period.

Guns, knives and a hammer were used to threaten staff at offices in Shantallow, Pennyburn, Creggan, Elmwood Street and the Brandywell.

Two shots were fired during the raid at the office at St Francis Terrace in the Collon area of Pennyburn on 16 December.

No one was injured in the incidents but staff are believed to have been left badly shaken.

The bookie chain – which has 16 offices in the Derry area – said the personal safety of its staff was a priority and was offering counselling and support to the staff affected.

A spokesperson for the company said: “Ladbrokes is offering all colleagues affected by this spate of robberies full counselling and support and is working closely with police on the investigation.

“We are taking additional security measures and reiterating our training to colleagues to ensure their personal safety remains the priority at all times.”

The spokesperson concluded: “A reward of up to £10,000 is being made available for information leading to a conviction.”

Derry Sinn Fein MLA Maeve McLaughlin, who has called for extra police resources for the city following the robberies, has contacted PSNI chiefs to express her concerns.

A PSNI spokesperson said police were not linking the incidents “at this stage.”

The spokesperson said police were appealing to anyone with any informatiopn or who saw anything suspicious to report it to Strand Road Police Station on 0845 600 8000.

The spokesperson added: “Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
