Thousands of homes on Derry’s cityside have been plunged into darkness following a power cut.
Up to 4,000 homes are affected in the Galliagh, Shantallow and Culmore areas.
Local SDLP MLA Mark H Durkan said he had been in contact with Northern Ireland Electricity and that engineers were “en route” with reconnection expected at 10.00pm
Mr Durkan appealed to people to check on their neighbours, especially the elderly, to ensure they were “ok.”
Motorists are also urged to care approaching the cityside of the Foyle Bridge where the Culmore Road-Madam’s Bank traffic lights are out of operation.
