The power cut which plunged thousands of homes in Derry into darkness last night was due to damage being caused to a high voltage underground cable.
Around 3,300 homes and businesses in the Culmore, Mount Vernon, Lenamore and parts of Galliagh were left without power for just over an hour from 6.45pm after a contractor working on field drainage near Clonliffe Park in Culmore hit and damaged an electricity cable supplying the local area.
Northern Ireland Electricity engineers restored power to all customers by 7.50.
NIE engineers responded, assessing the damage and restoring power to all customers by 7.50pm.
