The Derry “LondonDerry” Doire is ruling the waves in Race 7 of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
With 48 hours gone in the race from Tasmania to Brisbane, the Derry entry is continuing on from its victory in the Sydney-Hobart and is sailed well again and by this morning local time had opened up an impressive lead over the chasing pack, which included Old Pulteney, Jamaica Get All Right, OneDLL and GREAT Britain, who are placed third overall.
And the Derry Clipper were boosted by an additional three points, the maximum for crossing the Scoring Gate in first place.
Derry skipper Sean McCarter is in confident mood.
He said: “It is important that we harness the momentum. The guys are on a high after the result and we want to keep up the hard work. We didn’t change much for the Sydney-Hobart and we will carry on with the same watch system for this race too.”
The fleet is expected to reach Brisbane on Thursday next for a short stopover before the start of Race 8 to Singapore, which will start a day later than originally scheduled, on Sunday next 12 January.
