The long-awaited work to demolish the former St Peter’s High School in Derry has got underway.
Bulldozers have moved onto the the derelict site at Southway on the edge of Creggan estate.
The vacant building had been repeatedly targeted by aronists and vandals since closing in June last year.
The most serious incident occurred in September when up to 36 firefighters, from Derry, Strabane and Dungiven, battled a large blaze started deliberately.
Former Derry Mayor Sinn Fein Cllr Kevin Campbell, who had called for the building to be knocked down, has welcomed the start of the demolition process.
