The BBC Radio 1’s “One Big Weekend” was undoubtedly one of the highlights of Derry’s year as City of Culture.
Thousands attended the three-day event held at Ebrington Square from Friday – Sunday May 24 – 26.
Among the acts that thrilled the enthusiastic fans were Calvin Harris, Dizzee Rascal, Conor Maynard, Paramor, Olly Murs, Little Mix, Bruno Mars and a guest appearance by Robbie Williams.
Radio One has revealed they were inundated with messages in the run-up and during the event, especially fans making enquiries about tickets for the free event (which carried a £5 administration charge).
Radio One has revealed details of some of the messages received last year.
:: ”Can I have a ticket please? I wont tell anyone about it.”
:: “Can you send me a different day ticket out in the post (address) and I will send you back the one I don’t want anymore.”
:: ”I don’t work and can’t afford the £5, can I just get a free ticket?”
This year’s “One Big Weekend” will take place on Saturday and Sunday 28 and 29 June at a venue to be confirmed.
A spokesperson for the organisers said they would not be accepting private messages this year.
The spokesperson added: “However you can still remain posting your questions on our wall and we will do our best to answer all as much as we can. However messages in regards to obtaining tickets will not be answered as lots of information will be given on obtaining them.”
