“HIGH END” STOLEN GOODS BEING SOLD AT KNOCKDOWN PRICES, SAYS KELLY

The Derry public have been warned that “high end” electrical goods being sold at “knockdown prices” could be stolen.laptop-theft

The warning comes from Sinn Fein Cllr Colly Kelly who said the sale of such items followed a spate of burglaries and thefts in the city over recent weeks.

Councillor Kelly said apart from the criminals involved taking money, they were also on the lookout for the likes of items such as ipads, laptop computers and mobile phones.

Cllr Kelly added: “The reason they are going after such items is because not only are they easy to steal but also sadly because there are people willing to buy them.

“If someone is offering you a £400 games console for £100 or a £200 mobile phone for £50 then clearly something is badly wrong.”

Cllr Kelly said such thefts were not “victimless crimes” and those behind would not be doing it unless people were prepared to purchase them.

He concluded: “If they only seen the devastation left behind in the aftermath of these break-ins then they might think twice before buying stolen goods.”
