A special reception is to be held in Derry this week to honour members of the emergency services who worked over the Christmas period.
The reception is to be hosted by the city’s Mayor Cllr Martin Reilly for what he said was the “amazing job” carried out by those members who gave up their “precious time” at home with family and friends over Christmas.
Mayor Reilly said: “I am delighted to be able to host this special reception acknowledging the invaluable work of the many dedicated emergency services staff who sacrificed their own Christmas plans to ensure that others could enjoy the festivities in safety and security.
“With the poor weather conditions this year there was a particular need for extra support from all our services over the festive period.”
Mayor Reilly concluded: “These men and women do such an amazing job at safeguarding the public throughout the entire year, I would just like to pay tribute to their commitment and thank them for giving up precious time at home with family and friends over Christmas.”
