Fly-tipping at a Derry beauty spot is “unacceptable and unnecessary,” a local councillor has said.
SDLP Councillor Seán Carr was hitting out at the dumping of rubbish at Sheriff’s Mountain overlooking the city.
Cllr Carr said: “It is completely unacceptable to destroy a local beauty spot and ruin the environment for local people but it is also completely unnecessary given the nearby civic amenity centres.
“There are civic amenity centres in Pennyburn and Brandywell which are close to the Sheriff’s Mountain and, in any case, arrangement can be made with the Council for the removal items for disposal.”
Cllr Carr revealed he had spoken with Derry City Council officials and the area would now be cleaned up and urged anyone with any information on who was behind the “tipping” to contact the Council.”
