Brown food waste “wheelie bins” are to rolled out across the Derry City Council area over coming months.
Twenty-four thousand homes in the city are to receive the new bins which will be used in conjunction with the houshold waste (black) and recycle (blue) bins.
The new service, expected to be operational by April, is being introduced as a result of the Council obtaining £365,000 funding from ReThink Waste Fund.
Three refuse collection vehicles, specially designed for the service, have also been purchased.
Council officials have yet to decide what areas will receive the new bins.
